Baby Led Weaning: *Plates*

Nereus's plates.

This is the last post I'm making about blw equipment for these series (in case you were wondering). And it is about plates of course!

So, I wanted to follow the same principals as with cups and cutlery. Natural products, some unbreakable ones and not expensive.

At first we were offering food straight on his tray. But after a while we wanted to give him a plate to experiment with. And that was it the first weeks. An experiment! He would accidentaly throw it on the floor, add or remove food from it and give it back to us.

But, what excactly did I use you wonder? I went to ikea and bought a stainless steel bowl and a wooden one. I also got him a little ugly taverna-style stainless steel plate but I really can't remember where I got it from! These guys have served us well so far and I'm pretty satisfied. Also we can use them after Nereus grows up unlike with many plates that are made for babies.

Oh, we have also used a plastic one that was given to me by the same lady who gave me the sippy cup. It is the white divided one that you have probably seen in some photos of Nereus's breakfasts. We have barely used this and only with cold food. It does its job but I wouldn't buy one.

Of course we have given some breakable ones that no longer exist ha! It has to happen I guess!

If you buy from amazon, check out this set of wooden spoon and bowl, it's so cute. If stainless steel is what you prefer, I found this and this set with plate, bowl, spoon, fork and cup! Buy this set and don't worry about anything else!

  2. I truly enjoyed this series! I learned a lot. We had a few plastic bowls we got from one of Amare's baby showers that I wanted to get rid of, but didn't want to be wasteful. So to compromise on it I would only allow cold food served in it. I think maybe less plastic chemicals transfer to the food if the food is cold and not hot in something plastic.

    I love that wooden bowl!

Thanks for a wonderful informative series on Baby Led Weaning!

    1. That's true, hot and plastic is not a good combination! I like that you didn't want to waste the bowls that you already had!
