Vegan Baby Led Weaning: *The Highchair*

Are you considering doing baby led weaning with your child? Then, maybe you should consider getting a highchair, too.

Although, it's optional, I found it reeeally useful. At the begining Nereus was having just steamed fruit and veggies and we could easily hold him on our laps. But, when his daily meals were enriched with soups, oily food, drinks from a cup (aka messy foods), we needed something different.

A sweet lady with older kids had already given us their old highchair and we didn't have to buy one (yeah!). It did it's job for a while, but after some time we decided it wouldn't work for us anymore (don't worry, we didn't throw it...we gave it to a new mama...I hope they like it.)

See, it was a veeery big highchair with double cushion (where food was being stuck under all the time), many straps (which were getting really messy after each meal). It was also folding flat and all that mechanism that was required to do that was getting so much food in it that I had to clean up for ages after every single meal. And it's not only about cleaning, it seemed to be hard for him to reach the food on the tray...he was to small for this chair.

After a lot of thought, I broke my promise to not buy anything plastic anymore and went to Ikea to get the classic antilop (sorry planet!).

I am truly satisfied with this one. It's not huge like the first one, which makes it ideal for small places. It's sooo much easier to clean and way more easier for Nereus to reach his food. Another great thing is that the legs easily come off, so you can take antilop with you on grandma's or on vacation maybe? Also, it's ridiculously cheap and if you get it used or someone gives it to you for free it's even better.

If you're planning to buy this highchair, I have to inform you, that its belt isn't the best. It doesn't go over the shoulders making it easy for little monsters to escape. I have no problem with that because I'm always close when he eats, but be careful with that it might be very dangerous!

If you want to buy another one you'll find these tips helpful:

  • Removable trays are amazing when your baby decides to be really messy.
  • The smaller (and more simple) the highchair, the easier to clean.
  • Highchair trays with higher ends are practical when you're baby starts with blw because at first food will fall by mistake.
Please feel free to ask me anything blw or vegan baby food related. By having a 15 month old vegan baby I consider myself an expert hehe!
