I knew I wanted to eat less sweets because I didn't want my son to copy me. I used to have a pretty rubbish diet as a child and I am wishing for the excact opposite for Nereus. So far, so great! Nereus has only had molasses and a tiny bit of honey. But, as he grows, he's gonna want to have what I'm having and it won't be easy to trick him.
All I knew about sugar was that it is bad and we don't need it. Until I did some research. Man, I was socked from what I have found! It may lead from the obvious diabetes, obesity etc. to reduced mineral absorption and cancer!!! These are just a few from the long list . Those of you who have kids NEED to read it!
My second step was to take the sugar addiction quiz . It proved what I was suspecting. My addiction in sugar was huge!
In the middle of January, I decided to quit sugar! Big step! I wasn't well informed and as a result, I failed! I did more research and a few days later I started my (more serious) attempt to be sugar free!
And here I am now! After the first sugar free week of my life! Alive and happy! Ok, a little grouchy...I miss my drug! A had a couple of headaches and woke up in the middle of the night needing something sweet (I had some water and went back to sleep). I crave sweet things all day long, but I'm fighting it! I'll be honest, today I slipped and added half a teaspoon oh honey in my tea. It was the only cure I knew for sore throat and my sick baby wouldn't let me do some research for alternatives.
The girls over at the Sugar-Addicts Anonymous facebook group have helped me so much. If you ever consider quitting sugar join this group!
Here's what I have been eating while sugar-free! The pictures are from the beginning of the week only. I almost never had my hands free the last few days. Nereus is sick with bronchitis and needs my full attention!
Unbelievably tasty homemade cookies
Vegan pizza, beer and movie night for me and Philip! He made the dough, I made the toppings!
Hot cocoa made with hazelnut milk
Porridge with toasted coconut and raw cacao nibs and a splash of coconut milk
Sweet potato curry over brown rice (yes, I love pepper!)
Beans-quinoa and veggies salad
Have you ever tried being sugar-free?
ps. I have promised a giveaway which is not going to happen until the first days of February, if everything goes well. I'm also planning to share my vegan mayo recipe in February, too. Sorry for the delay, my baby is very sick and I am very tired. Beautiful things coming soon!
