Vegan Baby Led Weaning: *Lunch*

Black bean pattie and potato salad
Asparagus risotto and a new way to use a spoon
Chickpeas with rice and dill
Steamed broccoli, baked breaded oyster mushroom & potato+sweet potato oven fries. And he's eating the potato of course.
Gorgeous "last minute" meal: Black bean and corn quesadillas (made with homemade vegan queso and whole wheat tortillas) ->a big green salad would be great with this but we were so hungry we couldn't wait
Basmati rice, black eyed peas with oregano and yellow pepper (he didn't even touch the pepper))
Red lentil & veggie soup made by my mom (this was really good). Oh and when I served this to my boy, he mimed my spoon-spin-to-make-the-soup-get-colder and then he ate using his spoon like a sir!!! (Still made a mess though)
Roasted veggies, spanakopita & broccoli (he just had the spanakopita and baked potatoes and fed the rest to the doggie...I kept asking myself why? I thought broccoli was his favourite!)
Spinach rice and quinoa with bread (Now this is his favourite...he had some with his spoon and the rest with his hands...then he had a second plate)
Leftover spinach rice and quinoa with boiled potatoes and radikia (=greek greens) <-he had the spinch thing of course, a little bit of the potatoes and threw the greens on the floor
Most of these meals were accompanied with some orange juice (not shown). I've been juicing 2-3 oranges every day and share the juice with my baby. He loves it and it's a great way to add vitamin c to his meals to boost the mineral absorption and a way to take his iron drops (I put them in the juice).

Nereus has been a weird picky eater since his 1st birthday. The one day he LOVES asparagus and the next day he doesn't even want to see them. I'm offering a big variety of foods everyday and if he won't eat his beans, for example, I'm offering them later in a different form or offering another protein rich food. If he still won't eat it, I try not to panic and let his insticts guide the whole situation.

This works about 99.9% of the times. Things get bad when some of my relatives insist that this way (vegan and/or baby led weaning) I neglect my baby and try to make me feed him meat. Oh, with a spoon of course!* Even like this I have managed to never force him to eat anything or anyway. The worst thing that happens those times is that I lose my faith often and seek for confirmation on my books and internet.

Hey are there any vegan and/or baby led weaning mamas reading this blog?

I'd love to hear from you!

*I have NO problem with non vegan and non baby led weaning parents and babies and people in general. It just annoys me when they don't respect my way of life.

  1. Yes there is! These meal look soooo yummy! I love your approach to food for you little one. Who is so adorable by the way. My little one is doing the same thing with loving a certain food one minute, and hating it the next. I love your idea of offering different disliked foods at a later time in different forms. I have been doing the same. I like it how you follow his lead and your mama vegan instincts. You go girl!!!! Keep up the great work! ♥
