Yes, it’s true…we have a name! After a very long time, we finally decided to get a real name and stop calling him baby. Ok, we’ll still be calling him baby because we like it, but with a name next to it.
Contrary to the greek tradition, we didn’t want to give him one of our fathers’ names. We have decided to choose something special from the very beginning. We couldn't decide wich name to give him, thought. Phillip had some names in mind like Poseidon, Orion, Platon and others. I wanted something more rare. I have suggested Helios, Anemos, Ocean. We just couldn’t agree.
I suggested to let our baby ''choose'' one of the names we had in mind, with draw or something. In my mind, this is still the best option, but Phillip didn't seem so excited about it. Way to many times we’ve said that we wouldn’t leave the table if we didn’t pick a name. Way to many times we left. And then we went on vacation and the day we got on the island, I told Phillip that I’m not going anywhere if we don’t find a name. That was it. We have a name and this is Nereus.
Nereus was the oldest god of the sea, in ancient greek mythology. He was a titan actually. Father of Nereids, whith whom he lived in Aegean sea. Half man and half fish. He was known for his truthfulness and virtue. People imagined him as a wise, peacefull old man who never forgets what's the right thing.
My criteria for choosing the right name were two...
1. It had to sound nicely.
2. It had to carry good energy.
With picking this name, I have both. Plus, he loves the sea so much just as much as we do. Maybe it took as ages to name him, but his name suits him so well...
